As each of us goes about our daily routines and responsibilities we typically don’t think about the possibility that we might simply wear out one day. Activities in the community, entertainment, keeping up with email, social networking, etc. We just keep going.
In the nineties I worked as General Manager for the Corporate Services Division with American Express in Europe. One of my tasks was to manage a large team of individuals who were often feeling overwhelmed and stressed with the high pressure of performing at peak level. There are millions each year who, whether because of stress and fatigue brought on by exhaustion and burnout in the workplace, find it nearly impossible to keep up the pace.
Days off and vacations aren’t enough for some of us, and HeartMath Institute understands the importance of doing more to stay engage, happy and healthy. That is why teaching thousands of people each year to re-energize, rejuvenate and raise their resilience through self-care is central to our programs, services and mission.

A NEW MEASURE OF “RISK AND RETURN” IN THE HEALTH SECTOR
Creating Social and Economic Value Through Heart-based Living
Melissa Davis, RN – Discharge Planner at Fairfield Medical Center. 7 years of service. Trained in HeartMath tools. Working at the complicated intersection of medical, economic and social challenges, Ms. Davis creates plans for care after patients are discharged and, she says, “While on my rounds, I try hard to provide each of my patients with a sense of control which isn’t always easy. Practicing HeartMath tools helps me remember to breathe, and puts me on a path to positive thinking, giving me a much-needed focus as I begin to translate the various diagnoses and prescriptions into the practical impact on patients’ lives.”

Secret to Life
I believe that the secret to life lies in hitting the breaks, really slowing down and learning to understand ourselves better. You can only be at peace and feel fulfilled, when you are honest with yourself and start closing the gap between who you appear to be and who you really are. You will then discover that you are beautiful.
