Getting there

Sugar Beach Resort is located on Playa Pan de Azúcar in the Guanacaste Province of Costa Rica, also known as the Gold Coast. You have the option to fly into San Jose Airport, but we recommend to fly to Liberia Airport. From the Liberia International Airport (LIR) it is only an hour by shuttle, and from San José Airport (SJO) it’s about a 5 hour drive.

You might want to check out the following airlines:
AirCanada.com
Alaskaair.com
Westjet.com

Westjet has direct flights from Calgary to Liberia. We advise you to wait booking your flight as we expect the ticket prices will become lower in the next couple of months.

You can also check out more flight possibilities at Expedia.ca (from Canada). Domestic flights between San Jose (SJO) and Liberia (LIR) can also separately be booked at NatureAir.com.

The hotel can arrange a shuttle for you from San Jose or from Liberia at a reasonable additional cost.

If you decide to rent a car from Liberia Airport, here are the directions to Sugar Beach:

Driving directions from Liberia to Hotel Sugar Beach: When you exit the airport service road, take a right and go 29 km to Belen intersection. At the Belen intersection, take a right following signs to Hotel Sugar Beach, Flamingo, Melia Conchal. Follow this road for 26 km through Huacas. Just after Huacas, take the first right following signs to Hotel Sugar Beach, Flamingo, etc. Stay on this road for 9 km passing through Brasilito. At the junction for Flamingo / Potrero, veer right onto the dirt road toward Potrero. After 7 km, this dirt road ends at Hotel Sugar Beach. There are a few hard turns, so watch for signs to the Hotel and for Potrero. Once in Potrero, drive around the soccer field to the northwest corner and continue on for only 3 km. The last hill is bumpy, but at the bottom you’ll find the entrance to the hotel.

Climate in Costa Rica
If you are looking for a warm climate, head to Costa Rica’s northern Pacific coast. Known as the Gold Coast, this area receives the least rainfall and has more sunny days than anywhere else in the country.

Because Costa Rica is located between 8 and 12 degrees north of the Equator, the climate is tropical year round. There is no real summer or winter in Costa Rica and the rainy season here lasts from May to November, with the months of December through April having little to no rain.

Hygene at the hotel
Costa Rica is a well-developed country and the quality of the food, hygene and the cleanliness of the rooms is at a high standard. Everything they offer is very safe to eat and drink. The hotel also offers a tap with filtered water, so you can always fill your own water bottle during the day.
